Botox is FDA approved for chronic migraines, which means 15 or more headaches per month lasting 4 hours a day or longer.
Botox is a form of botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin produced by bacteria that causes botulism. When the Botox botulinum toxin is purified and used in tiny doses in specific areas, it temporarily reduces muscle contractions for approximately 3 month.
Botox is injected around pain fibers that are involved in headaches. Botox enters the nerve endings around where it is injected and blocks the release of chemicals involved in the pain transmission. This prevents activation of pain networks in the brain.
Botox is FDA approved for chronic migraines, and is covered by most insurance plans. Allergan offers a Botox saving card which offers patients reduced fees. Our office will get authorization from your insurance company and will help you with the savings card.
Please keep in mind that your insurance company will approve Botox as a treatment for chronic migraines if you have trialed and failed to respond to two or more preventive treatments. If you have already failed preventive treatments, or already receiving Botox and would like our office to continue your care, please contact our office for an appointment.

Botox is a procedure using Botulinum Toxin which was developed to treat the visual signs of aging by reducing or removing wrinkles. Botox is FDA approved and clinically proven to treat frown lines and wrinkles that have formed overtime due to muscle contractions beneath the skin.
The procedure works by altering the facial muscles beneath the skin that are related to wrinkles. A local anesthetic will be applied on your skin prior to the treatment. A small amount of Botox is injected into the area and this works by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscle, thereby relaxing them. The result is the underlying facial muscles relax and the skin is smoothed out. The procedure takes only a few minutes and results occur within a few days and the full results are seen at two weeks post injection. The effects of Botox treatments will last about four months and the procedure can then be repeated
3 DAYS BEFORE treatment: AVOID topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), retinols, retinoids, glycolic acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, or other “anti-aging” products. Also AVOID waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal cream on the area to be treated.
7 DAYS BEFORE treatment (to prevent bruising): AVOID blood-thinning over-the-counter medications such as aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and Aleve.
After your appointment, you may return to your regular activities immediately. The results of Botox take some time to develop, and you should begin to see improvement within 3 to 7 days.
The cost of Botox treatments depends on the amount needed to produce the desired results. We use Botox conservatively to create natural-looking results that minimize wrinkles and lines. We will discuss the number of units we believe are needed and provide a specific price quote before your treatment sessions. COST IS $12 PER UNIT.
Your results can last for up to 4 months, at which point you may want to schedule follow-up maintenance treatments.
Please have referring physician/provider fax a referral, last 3 office notes if applicable, lab work, imaging pertaining to your issue, as well as any post-op reports. This is needed before an appointment can be scheduled.
Please have paperwork completely filled out before your 1st appointment. Due to length of the paperwork an appointment may need to be rescheduled if not done. If you have not received your paperwork in the mail you can print paperwork below. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early.
Please call your pharmacy or use the patient portal for refills, request 7-10 before you are due! Failure to do so can result in a delay of your refill request.
